I have been having a lovely time reading blogs demonstrating how to make perfect bound notebooks. The results look truly professional! But for those people wanting to sell their notebooks, hand making each one is not really a viable option.As a reminder, perfect bound notebooks are when single pages are glued in to the spine of a cover. As a good rule of thumb the spines need to be no less than 5mm to allow enough glue and pressure to hold all the pages securely. Because you can work on the width of the spine you can have lots of pages of a lighter weight paper, or fewer pages of heavier paper.
At A Local Printer we have been working with lots of our retail customers to bring their perfect bound notebooks to life. These products are generally customised to particular requirements, but we have plans afoot to bring a range of standardised perfect bound notebooks to our website.
Whilst we all live in a digital age the notebook is far from dead. In fact, we sell more notebooks now than we ever have. There is something rather lovely about opening your notebook to a fresh virgin page – whether it is for a quick scribbled reminder or something more structured. It is also quicker to grab your notebook and pen and get straight to it, rather than finding your digital device, opening it up, finding the right app and then tapping away on the digital keyboard.
Perfect bound notebooks can come in pretty much any size you want, and if you are going bespoke the range of cover materials is almost too much choice. Embossed, foil blocked, laminated, spot UV – all of these special finishing techniques are available if you want to glam up your notebook.
