Designing your eco friendly wedding stationery

Your Big Day is booked, the suits and dress fittings are organised. But what about all of the wedding stationery? Well we can help with that, but you can help us too, by having an idea of what you would like your wedding stationery to look like. The we can do the rest.

Eco friendly wedding stationerySo here we are on Valentine's Day with love, romance and wedding proposals in the air. And when you do decide to make that special trip down the aisle the last thing you want is to be worrying about all the details that have gone towards making your Big Day, well, big.

With an ‘average’ wedding costing a whopping £27,000 (source UK Wedding Report 2017 by Bridebook and TWIA) it is little surprise that DIY weddings are becoming more popular. We can’t help you out with hacks for every aspect of your big day, but we can give you some great pointers for saving some cash by designing your own wedding stationery.

Before you even start designing make sure you have a list of all the key information your guests are going to need – names, dates, time, location, RSVP information etc, and based on that decide what you want to have printed. As a minimum you will need an invitation, or possibly two (day and evening). Then you can have Save the Date cards, RSVP cards, reception printing (menus, table plans, favours) and thank-you cards. Phew!

If you’re choosing to design your own wedding invitations you probably have a good idea of how you would like it to look, but things to consider are:-

Colours – will it match the colour scheme of your wedding or be different. It’s your wedding so you make the rules, although a mention as to the wedding day colour theme might spare some embarrassment over colour clash!

Size – when you are designing your stationery try to keep to standard invitation sizes like A5 or A6. That way when they are printed you know you can find an envelope to fit. If you fancy something different have a browse through an envelope supplier website; if you see a size you like design your invitation 10mm smaller than the envelope (ie a 150mm square envelope will need a 140mm invitation).

Paper and finish – get in touch for paper samples, especially if you are thinking of printing on kraft. Some printers, like us, offer a printed sample service so you can be 100% sure you love how your design looks on your chosen paper.

Getting down to your wedding stationery design

The fun bit! At this point it is entirely down to you and the opportunity to flex your creative muscles. You might want a personal photograph, a hand drawn invitation, typography only or a classic romantic image. If you have some design skills that’s great, but if not your printer will also be able to tidy up your artwork, add or remove the bits that need tweaking and get it to a print ready stage without losing any of your own input or character.

Adding bells and whistles

Once your wedding stationery has arrived you can continue to add your own personal touch with creative edge punches, ribbons, glitter, twine, tags and even gilding! When your invitation arrives through the post it will be nothing like anyone has seen before!
