Did We Fall Out of Love With Kraft Paper Printing?

For years, kraft paper was the darling of the DIY wedding scene, the boutique greeting-card market, and the indie-stationery world. Its rustic charm, earthy fibre textures, and warm, natural brown tone gave it an authentic, artisanal feel that brilliant white card never could. And then… it faded. Not suddenly, but subtly. One day, kraft was everywhere; the next, it felt dated. So what happened? Why was there a sudden drift away from kraft?

The Rustic Trend Peaked — and Then Moved On

The obsession with kraft was deeply tied to a broader aesthetic movement: rustic-chic weddings, mason jars, hessian runners, and the popularity of barn venues. But trends evolve. As wedding styles shifted towards modern minimalism, bold colour palettes, and editorial layouts, kraft suddenly felt too nostalgic and too specific. Kraft didn’t become bad — it just stopped fitting the moment.

Sustainability Trends Shifted Away From “Rustic = Eco”

Kraft feels eco-friendly with its natural colour, raw texture, and unbleached vibes. But as consumers became more educated about sustainable materials, they started asking better questions.

Recycled white card stocks, FSC-certified papers, and carbon-neutral production methods began taking centre stage.

Eco-conscious buyers now prefer to prioritise:

  • recyclability,
  • low-impact production,
  • renewable fibres,
  • and verified certifications

…rather than the appearance of sustainability.

Kraft no longer automatically signals “green choice.”

In the world of greeting cards customers now lean towards crisp whites, elegant soft greys, or deeper colours that kraft can't compete with.

But thankfully kraft didn’t disappear. It simply became a speciality material again — perfect when the vibe calls for a specific, rustic look and feel

Is Kraft Gone for Good?

Not at all. It is still a superb paper for when the need demands, such as

  • Organic product packaging
  • Earthy boho wedding themes
  • Vintage-style prints
  • Handmade artisan brands
  • Autumn and winter greeting cards

Kraft’s charm is still there — we just finally recognised that it’s a seasoning, not a staple. Its strength lies in its character, and that should be applauded.
