We've added a new product to our printed notebook range with a square spine finish. This means that we can print 60 and 80 page books in-house and at a very competitive price. Our answer to perfect bound notebooks is a perfectly new product.
When is a perfect bound notebook not a perfect bound notebook? When it is one of our innovative new square spine notebooks.
The absolute beauty of this product is that it creates notebooks with up to 100 pages but does not need to be perfect bound – which of course makes it a far more affordable option. The notebook is finished with two staples in the normal way, but goes through a special process that creates not just a square spine on the cover, but also on the text pages. This in turn means that the pages fit snuggly within the spine with less tendency for the books to spring open. With a squared spine the stitched book lays flatter and looks very similar to a perfect bound book.
Square spine notebooks benefit from a ‘flattened’ finish, which is ideal for books made with heavier papers or 60+ pages. Smaller stitched books, such as our A6 size, also benefit from the squared spine which allows them to open easier than standard wire stapling when using more than 40 pages.
As the number of pages increases, so does the creep factor of the page which can affect the layout of printed text pages, with images not lining up accurately with its partner on the opposite page.
In general we recommend square spine notebooks for text pages between 60 and 120. Bear in mind that the thickness of the paper will also play a big role in whether the notebook can be square spine finished or if it needs to be perfect bound.
